This is the second in the series of Breakfasts from around the world. Every time I open this forwarded email containing a comprehensive list of breakfasts from around the world, my appetite performs a dozen somersaults. It is a delicious way of learning the basics of different worldly cuisines.

Oladi is considered to be native to Russian breakfasts. Similar to pancakes, they are thicker in width and made from a kefir based batter; soft from the inside and crispy from the outside. Served with fresh fruits, honey, jam or sour cream, they sure look like a delicious way to start the day.

Like in most parts of South-East Asia, breakfast in Korea too is like any other meal. Rice is essential along with other Korean delicacies such as kimchi, a bowl of clear vegetable soup with eggs and not to forget meat.

Peruvian cuisine has hints of Spanish flavor along with shades of Asian influences. Popular choice for breakfast is rice and beans mixed with onions, garlic and tomato sauce. However, being in Peru, one cannot afford to miss out on on their national heritage ‘ceviche’. It is made from chunks of raw fish marinated in lemon or orange juice and seasoned with chilli peppers, salt and pepper. A healthy way to begin the day.

Mexicans enjoy a spicy breakfast, hence chorizos, tortillas, cheese, sour cream and corn cakes feature heavily on their menu. One of their most popular breakfast dish is the Huevos Rancheros; fried egg atop a lightly toasted tortillas and bathed in a spicy tomato sauce, refried beans and guacamole. I sure would love waking up to that.

A hearty breakfast spread in Turkey includes a vast array of delicacies. It includes slices of fresh halloumi cheese, feta cheese, olives, spiced meat, pickled cucumbers, tomatoes and eggs. Turkish bread along with a cup of their native Turkish coffee or tea caps off this elaborate breakfast.

Sinangnan, which is garlic fried rice and Longganisa, little meat sausages, are the staples of breakfast in the Philippines. Other popular items include small bread rolls known as Pandesal and white cheese called Kesong Puti.

In Venezuela, bread is mostly substituted by Arepas. This is their traditional cornmeal cake which is either baked, grilled or fried. Normally in Venezuela, Arepas are stuffed with either cheese or their variant of scrambled eggs called Perico. Also famous are their empanadas, fried corn flour patties stuffed with cheese, minced meat or even seafood.

Rice is a staple for any Vietnamese breakfast as it provides a healthy source of energy for the day. Chao and Pho Soup are the most popular morning dishes in Vietnam. Chao consists of a congee/porridge made from rice and meat. Hence the dish is packed with all the essential nutrients for the day from carbohydrates to protein.

Rice and beans are mixed to form the traditional breakfast for Costa Ricans known as Gallo Pinto. It is served with fried plantain, corn tortillas and optional meats on the side.
